Harrisburg Redevelopment Authority, in conjunction with The Houston Parks and Recreation Department, has completed the Eastwood Park Master Plan!
The purposes of the Eastwood Park Master Plan are to:
Build a level of excitement in the community about what the park could be and the role it can play as the area continues to evolve
Establish a common vision for the future of Eastwood Park, including a concept for a layout and set of amenities that meets the need and changing character of the community
Respect and celebrate the history of the park and the deep culture of Historic Second Ward and the Greater East End
Provide an estimate of the cost to complete various improvements to the park, including a means of phasing in redevelopment
The master planning effort for Eastwood Park began with collecting data and analyzing the existing park conditions. This planning process involved public engagement to gauge the needs and desires of the community. A public survey was conducted in June 2021 to gather information from the community on what park elements would most benefit Eastwood Park. The results of the survey, analysis of the site, and guidance from stakeholder meetings were used to develop the proposed design concepts for the park. Community input is critical to this effort. The Redevelopment Authority hosted “Pop up in the Park” on January 22nd and 23rd 2022 where the design team met with community members to present three master plan concepts and gather feedback. On February 9th, 2022 a Virtual Town Hall Meeting was held via Zoom to also present the concepts and gather feedback once again. Feedback on the concepts was also gathered via a survey on this website.
The final concept features:
A new and expanded community center with a series of outdoor gathering spaces, including a covered plaza/event space.
An expanded pool with upgraded amenities and that creatively uses the current historic community center
Replaces the formal baseball field with a multipurpose field that can be used for multiple sports or as a general outdoor field
An enhanced playground and skate park with shade structures and nearby seating and social spaces for friends and family
An expanded series of walking trails and increased parking space
Improved and maintained basketball and soccer courts
Additional amenities - all while increasing the sense of open space and with even more trees and landscaping than before!
We are eager to show you the final Eastwood Park Master Plan. Check it out now!
